The Karamous End Table is far more than a table; it is a sculptural wooden masterpiece that brings the grandeur of the Imperial style and the dignity of ancient architecture into the interior. Its design creatively breaks away from conventional table structures. Here, the legs are not merely functional supports; they become the primary aesthetic element, extending beyond the tabletop and embracing it in elegant scroll and volute forms, almost like protective arms surrounding the surface.
Three curved legs, reminiscent of the mythical tripod structures of antiquity, sweep gracefully outward and upward before terminating in intricately carved scroll-shaped capitals. At the bottom, the three legs are connected by a thick and robust wooden ring, providing exceptional stability while adding a remarkable sense of geometric symmetry. Nestled within this artistic framework, the tabletop creates a feeling of protection and visual focus for the objects displayed upon it.
The intricate, multidimensional structure of the Karamous represents a demanding challenge for master woodworkers.
Unlike conventional tables, the legs of the Karamous are carved from solid pieces of wood, becoming thicker toward the upper and lower sections while narrowing gracefully through the center. Creating the scroll-shaped details at the tops of the legs, together with the precise carving of lotus flowers and acanthus leaves along the curved sections, requires hours of meticulous hand craftsmanship to achieve the desired depth and dimensionality.
Connecting the curved legs to the lower ring and upper tabletop requires highly precise woodworking calculations to ensure that every leg follows exactly the same angle and curvature. Even the slightest deviation in the cutting angle could compromise the table’s visual balance or structural stability. At Bersini workshops, these challenges are addressed with millimeter-level precision.
For a piece featuring free-flowing, outward-projecting structural elements, the choice of wood is one of the most critical stages of production.
The entire structure of the Karamous is crafted from Grade A-B Georgian beech wood.
