Amsterris Library

The Amsterris Library is far more than a bookshelf; it is a magnificent architectural element. With its “backless” structure, it seeks to bring the grandeur of classical architecture into the interior without making the space feel closed or heavy. Two thick, steadfast columns on either side play the leading role in this design. The column bodies are decorated with a “fluting” technique, reminiscent of Doric and Ionic styles. At the highest point, carved capitals with floral and scroll motifs sit like a crown atop the structure. The stepped base of the columns further provides exceptional stability and visual poise.

Exquisite handcrafted artistry

Amsterris is a showcase of the manual skill of Berssini’s master craftsmen in carving and shaping wood.

• Precise Carving & Fluting: Creating the vertical grooves on the columns requires mathematical precision to ensure that the spacing and depth are perfectly uniform. The capitals are hand-carved with chisels by master carvers, making the depth and relief of the flowers and vines appear vivid and natural.
• Concealed Shelf Joinery: The wooden shelves are integrated into the side columns in such a way that no screws or visible fasteners are apparent, as if the shelves are part of the columns’ unified body.

Premium Materials

To create such a column-like structure, only wood with specific mechanical properties can be utilized.

• All-Wood Structure (Grade AB Beechwood): The entire framework of Amsterris, from the massive columns to the shelves, is crafted from Grade AB Turkish beechwood.
• Load-Bearing in Open Spans: The shelves of this library are long and lack a central support. Thanks to its high modulus of elasticity, Grade AB beechwood offers extraordinary bending strength, preventing the shelves from sagging under the weight of heavy books over time.
• Superior Finishability: The dense and homogeneous texture of beech allows for the fluting on the columns and the carvings on the capitals to be executed cleanly, with sharp, precise edges and no chipping.

Design and placement

Design and placement

• Luxury Partition: Due to its backless design, this library can serve as a room divider between the living and dining areas or in entrances without obstructing light.
• Office Spaces: An unrivaled option for law firms and classical executive offices seeking to project authority and authenticity.
• Styling: Ideal for displaying rare books, classical sculptures, and valuable accessories. Amsterris brings the ambiance of a magnificent historical manor to any setting.
